Chapter 6

After getting Bisha a cup of his favorite Oolong tea and iced sweet tea with lemon for him and Creed, Loki warded the tent. Nothing elaborate, just a little something to let him know if any of the others came near. They may not be able to see Bisha unless he chose it, but they could still hear Creed and Loki talking. Not something he or Creed needed to explain.

Loki and Creed sat together on his cot while Bisha remained on Loki’s. He was in his ceremonial robes of white and red with black accents, long hair pulled back in a tail. The ceremonial hat was missing. They gave him a few minutes to drink his tea. He seemed calmer despite the pinched features and air of utter sadness about him. His thoughts were locked tight too. Not that Loki would pry. Wasn’t his style. He hated it when others tried it with him. Nosey bastards.

“Are you sure, Bisha?” Loki asked gently.

“Yes,” he huffed out a harsh breath. “After today, I’m positive.”

“Why today?” Creed beat Loki to the question.

“Actually, I had a feeling nearly a week ago,” Bisha grimaced.

“Ah, the reason you asked at my cabin,” Loki surmised.

Bisha nodded. “After all the BS that’s been thrown around about Soul Mates over the eons, well…I had to know for sure.” He raised his cup, taking a quick sip. “This isn’t something I could leave up to chance, Loki. Not this.”

“I know, my friend.” He gave Bisha a wan smile. “Why don’t you explain how all this happened.”

With another fortifying drink of his tea, Bisha did.

The young man, Kenneth ‘Kenichi’ Dubois, came to Bisha’s shrine in Kyoto with his two male cousins. Half Japanese, Bisha knew right off there was something different about the young man. He hardly spoke while they were there. When he did, it was in English. Plus, the two cousins seemed very protective. When anyone would come near Kenichi, the two males would either steer him away or stand on either side to keep others from getting close. It was very odd, but Bisha didn’t think much of it until the trio returned to his shrine the next day. Intrigued, Bisha tried to read Kenichi but came up blank.

“I kept trying as hard as I could. All it got me was a migraine.” Bisha drained the last of his tea.

“Did you learn anything from the cousins?” Creed inquired.

“Hi,” he replied with an angry expression. “Kenichi’s mother is full Japanese from a very old and wealthy Kyoto family. His father was a journalist. Wrote for a bunch of big papers with a few bestselling novels under his belt. His family is wealthy also.”

“Forbidden love?” Loki sighed.

“In more ways than one,” Bisha retorted. “The scandal for both families when Kenichi’s imminent arrival was announced was epic. Marriage was, of course, out of the question. The child would be welcome and loved. Kenichi’s mother is the only daughter out of two marriages and five sons. Her father could overlook his grandchild’s half status while being raised the proper way.
